More green energy

At Sinatur, we work every day to contribute to a more sustainable world. We have just made several major energy-saving changes that significantly reduce our CO2 emissions. A final goodbye to black electricity, a new district heating system and the transition from light bulbs to LED lighting are some of the steps we have just taken to contribute to a more environmentally friendly everyday life.

As of 1 January 2019, we have switched to clean wind turbine power at all our six hotels. This means that we save the climate from 1,100 tonnes of CO₂ annually. 

Running six conference hotels requires a lot of energy. Tens of thousands of light bulbs burning almost constantly, hundreds of sheets and towels that need to be washed daily, and thousands of meals that need to be prepared every single day. There is no shortage of things that send the electricity meter into rotation in the daily hotel operations, and therefore we have entered into an agreement that our power consumption in the future will only be covered by certified wind turbine power.

We are in favour of the green agenda with our heart and soul, and it is more than just saved platitudes on our part. With our locations, nature is our most important commodity, and we do our best every day to reduce our footprint on it.

We cannot run a hotel or provide a setting for conferences without using large amounts of electricity, and by only buying wind turbine power, we can save emissions of 1,100 tons of CO₂ - every single year. We are happy to do this for the small additional cost of the wind turbine power.

Wind turbine power in the contacts - regardless of the weather
Buying certified wind turbine power does not mean that the power that comes out of the switch is created by the wind. Buying and having wind turbine power delivered is not the same, because we only have one supply network, Energinet, which mixes and distributes the power from all our different energy sources. 

Buying certified wind turbine power means that the number of megawatts you use will be purchased as wind turbine power on the energy exchange. Therefore, your megawatts are added to the electricity grid at some point. The system means that there is always power in the contacts. Buying wind turbine power also leads to increased turnover and demand in the sector, which therefore has better conditions for operation, maintenance, development and expansion. 

We do not solve all the climate challenges with wind turbines, but by getting our almost 2.5 million annual kWh from renewable energy, we reduce our climate footprint considerably. This is a long-term development, and we expect to follow up with more initiatives.  

300 light bulbs that burn for 18 hours - 340 days a year - have made the counter on the electricity meter run fast for a lifetime, but after a healthy investment in LED lighting, the conference hotel now saves over 105,000 kg of CO2 - and more than DKK 200,000 over a 5-year period.

High energy consumption
The Great Belt Sinatur Hotel & Konference is beautifully situated on the shoreline with a view of the impressive Great Belt Bridge. The unique and central location in Denmark attracts many thousands of guests annually for educational conferences or relaxing weekend stays.

The high number of guests and a large number of square meters under roof result in a high energy consumption, which we work daily to reduce. We have now succeeded in taking a quantum leap in the right direction with the replacement of the traditional light bulbs with LED lighting, which we are of course pleased about.

We make an effort
It is our key issue to reduce our energy consumption and emit less CO2 into the atmosphere. We have our own wind turbine, solar parks, wood chip boilers and wood pellet boilers, and we recycle 67 percent of our waste. We really make an effort to take care of the world we live in, because we want to leave it in very good condition for future generations, and the investment in LED lighting, which reduces CO2 emissions by 21,114 kilos per year from day one, is a contribution to this. 

Pure Sense
LED lighting is a sensible investment. We save 42,228 kWh per year, and with an electricity price of DKK 1.30 per kWh, this gives an annual saving of DKK 54,896. The large annual savings mean that the investment in the LED light sources is repaid in just 1.8 years. At the same time, we reduce our CO2 emissions considerably, and that is actually the most important thing.

CTS to further reduce energy consumption
After the switch to LED lighting, we have already started to investigate the possibilities for energy-friendly investments that can further reduce CO2 emissions. We have many lamps that burn unnecessarily in the corridors or in meeting rooms during the day. Therefore, we invest a large six-figure amount in an intelligent CTS system, which is a system. that can help us manage and monitor our energy consumption.

We want to inspire
In practical terms, this means that we can, for example, ensure that the light is only turned on when it is needed. That's smart. Both economically and for the environment, and it underlines that we are not just saying that we will take good care of the world we live in. We live out the attitude in practice, we are first movers, and we hope to inspire others to follow suit for the joy and benefit of the world our children and grandchildren grow up in.
